INTERCULTURAL TOLERANCE AND MUTUAL RESPECT AS KEY VALUES OF CULTURAL DIALOGUE

Abstract

The article explores the importance of intercultural tolerance and mutual respect as core values in contemporary intercultural dialogue. In the globalized world, where the diversity of cultures and people is an integral part of public life, the issue of tolerance is becoming particularly relevant. Increasing levels of intolerance, xenophobia, racism and religious conflicts pose serious threats to the peaceful coexistence of people of different cultural traditions. Therefore, intercultural dialogue based on mutual respect and understanding is the key to maintaining stability and development of modern societies. The purpose of the study is to clarify the importance of intercultural tolerance and mutual respect in the formation of an effective intercultural dialogue and to suggest possible ways to develop a tolerant society. The work covers the theoretical foundations of intercultural tolerance and analyzes its evolution through the prism of philosophical concepts of different eras. Comparison of approaches to tolerance by ancient Greek, medieval, enlightenment and modern philosophers shows how the understanding of this category has changed in the context of intercultural relations. It is emphasized that tolerance in intercultural dialogue has not only a negative aspect, which means tolerance of the other, but also a positive one, which implies active acceptance of the other, understanding and search for common ground. Particular attention is paid to the current challenges of intercultural dialogue, including rising political tensions, migration processes, and social divisions. Ways to overcome xenophobia and ethnic conflicts through education, international initiatives and migrant integration programs are proposed. The importance of developing intercultural communication and promoting understanding between different cultural groups, which is the basis for peaceful coexistence, is emphasized. The role of education as the main tool for the formation of a tolerant society is highlighted, where an important aspect is teaching mutual respect, critical thinking and openness to cultural diversity. International initiatives, research programs and policy instruments that promote the formation of inclusive societies play an important role in this process. Thus, intercultural tolerance and mutual respect remain integral components of harmonious intercultural relations that contribute to the development of peace, social stability and global integration.
