Abstract
With the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, the global security system has undergone significant transformations. This conflict has not only become a local confrontation, but also has caused global consequences regarding the stability of the international order. The deepening tension between Russia and Western countries, as well as the expansion of the scale of aggression, have called into question the effectiveness of traditional international security instruments, such as the UN, the OSCE, and even NATO. In the face of new challenges, Ukraine plays an important role in reforming international security, having become at the forefront of the struggle to preserve peace and stability in Europe and beyond. The relevance of this study lies in the need to assess Ukraine’s participation in changing the architecture of international security and identifying its potential for the formation of new security mechanisms. The purpose of the article was to analyze the main changes that have occurred in the international security system after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, to identify the principles and institutions of international security that require updating, and to assess Ukraine’s role in reforming international collective security mechanisms. Particular attention was paid to Ukraine’s interaction with NATO, the EU and other international organizations in the context of new global threats. To achieve this goal, methods of historical and comparative analysis were used, as well as methods of a systemic approach to assess changes in the international security system. Analysis of documents related to international security, as well as scientific publications on the development of international organizations in the post-conflict period, made it possible to assess the impact of the war on the evolution of security mechanisms. The content analysis method was separately applied to study the statements and positions of international institutions on changes in the international security architecture after 2022. The study found that the war in Ukraine was the impetus for significant changes in the international security system. The analysis showed that the basic principles and institutions, such as collective security, defense alliances and peacekeeping mechanisms, need to adapt to new realities. Ukraine plays a key role in this process, initiating reforms within NATO and the EU, actively influencing the formation of a new security policy and contributing to changing the strategies of Western countries. In particular, improving collective security requires strengthening military, economic and diplomatic ties between states, as well as creating new formats of cooperation with international organizations to confront modern challenges. The research prospects are aimed at further analyzing the impact of the war in Ukraine on the transformation of international security in the medium and long term.
