Abstract

The article examines the current state of the main indicators of the labor market of Ukraine. The study’s relevance is due to the need to adapt the labor market to new conditions under martial law. The study aims to find current trends in the labor market to make effective management decisions at the state level and quickly respond to changes that open up development vectors for both employers and job seekers. The study used data collection and processing methods, quantitative analysis and synthesis, logical comparison, the comparative advantage method, and the graphical method. The results of the study found that over the past 10 years, there has been a decrease in the number of permanent residents. In 2022, after the start of the full-scale invasion, according to official data, the number of permanent residents decreased by 6.2 million people. The main reasons for this are the high mortality rate, which exceeds the birth rate, as well as the growth of the share of the population of retirement age (65 years and older). Over the past two decades, this share has increased significantly, creating additional pressure on the country’s economy. Low birth rates and an aging population are worsening the demographic situation, which is currently assessed as negative. The economic consequences of the full-scale invasion in 2022 also significantly impacted the labor market. A large number of employers were forced to lay off staff, and many enterprises were destroyed, which caused a sharp decrease in demand and supply in the labor market. These changes can be traced through the dynamics of the index of new vacancies and resumes on job search platforms. Starting in June 2022, the labor market gradually began to recover. However, the demand for labor significantly exceeds the supply, which causes an imbalance. Despite this, the recovery of the labor market is ongoing, and there is hope for an improvement in the situation shortly. Future research should be aimed at finding appropriate management tools at all levels of labor market regulation and integrating international experience in improving the state of the labor market in Ukraine.
