Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of food security in Ukraine under the conditions of modern global challenges, including climate change, armed conflicts, pandemics, and political crises, which significantly impact the country’s socio-economic development. The study examines the key indicators of food security, focusing on both the physical and economic accessibility of essential food products for the population. This enables the identification of potential threats and the determination of positive trends within the context of contemporary challenges. The authors pay particular attention to the dynamics of consumption of key products such as meat, milk, vegetables, potatoes, and other agricultural goods, based on a detailed analysis of data for the period from 2000 to 2021. The research identifies important trends that reflect the influence of global crisis events, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale war, on the stability of Ukraine’s food system, its domestic market, and foreign trade. The study’s methodology is based on the application of modern approaches to consumption analysis, including statistical modeling, comparative analysis of international standards, and the integration of accumulated international experience in monitoring food security indicators. A comparative analysis with international benchmarks, especially the Global Food Security Index (GFSI), is used to assess the effectiveness of national food policy. The article also highlights the potential for leveraging international experience in developing national strategies to ensure food security. Special emphasis is placed on the development of practical recommendations aimed at enhancing the level of food security. The proposed measures focus on optimizing the monitoring system, improving mechanisms for managing food resources, and supporting the agricultural sector, which should serve as the foundation for further strategic decisions by the government and local authorities.
