Abstract

The article examines innovation and digitalization as key factors in ensuring the sustainable development of regions, given the growing need to intensify innovative activity and adapt society and the state to the requirements of the digital economy. It emphasizes that digitalization permeates all spheres of life, opening up new opportunities to enhance regional competitiveness and improve the quality of life for the population. It is noted that innovative approaches to regional development involve the modernization of management systems, the improvement of legal frameworks, and the expansion of interregional cooperation, while the mechanism of public administration of sustainable development is interpreted as a set of instruments and principles aimed at balancing progress in various fields. The role of digitalization in strengthening the global economy is analysed, where digital innovations optimize business processes, expand product offerings, reduce costs, and open new sources of profit. The main global trends in digital transformation in the field of sustainable development are highlighted: the development of digital governance, the expansion of the digital economy, the application of artificial intelligence and big data, the improvement of digital infrastructure, and the use of technologies in public finance. Promising directions of digital transformation are identified, including the development of e-commerce, innovations in the financial sector, education and science, the introduction of ecological technologies, and social innovations. Examples of the creation of smart cities and intelligent regions are analysed, combining digital solutions, energy efficiency, and social practices to improve the quality of life of the population and ensure the rational use of resources. Foreign practices that demonstrate the integration of smart technologies in transport, energy, ecology, and urban governance are noted. In the Ukrainian context, the development of Smart Grid, digital meters, and the role of private initiatives are outlined. The article concludes that the successful integration of innovative mechanisms in the context of digitalization will contribute to the harmonization of economic, social, and environmental interests, the formation of innovative ecosystems, and the strengthening of Ukraine’s position in the international arena.
